Hello long lost readers! I am so sorry it has been so long since I have been on here! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the exciting news, we are expecting Baby Bowens to arrive at the end of March. I am officially in my 2nd trimester and finally starting to feel better and more back to myself. I wanted to get back on the blog and share what the first trimester was like and what we have planned between now and the arrival of Baby Bowens!
I’m not going to lie, the 1st trimester was pretty tough for me, I was nauseous everyday for about 6 weeks. It was like having a 6 week hangover that just would not end. I was also pretty tired in the first few weeks, where I would come home from work everyday and take a nap because I was so sleepy. Getting through the day at work with the constant nausea was tough because I was trying to act like my normal self but always in the back of my mind I was worried I would have to run to the restroom to vomit. I will say that I was lucky because I only threw-up one time and it was on a work from home day, so it was easy to deal with.
Since I was so tired and nauseous on a daily basis I stopped working out in the beginning of my pregnancy because I just could not get up and get to Orange Theory. I was really bummed by this because I have always said to Howard that when I was pregnant I wanted to keep up with my workout regimen, little did I know then, I was going to feel hungover for weeks. I didn’t workout for over 6 weeks so I knew it would be hard to get back into class, so I put my membership on hold until after the baby arrives. For the rest of my pregnancy my plan for fitness is to go on daily walks with Howard (as long as the weather holds up) and I want to start training with him ideally 3 days a week. I have how important it is to stay active during your pregnancy because it can help with the delivery and getting back to yourself after the baby arrives.
The other thing I really struggled with during the 1st trimester and still am now is my appetite. I do not really have a taste for anything, even my usual favorite foods. I do not like sweets, when I have been trying them here and there they make me want to trow-up so I have been sticking to the salty type snacks. I went through a phase where I ate a lot of hamburgers, but I have not been in the mood for one lately. Any of you moms out there have this issue when you were pregnant? How long did it last for you? I’ve been trying to come up with things that I want to eat because I don’t know how much longer Howard can live with my answer of “I don’t know” when he asks me what I want to eat. I am hoping this passes soon and if it doesn’t I just need to find some basic foods that I don’t mind eating.
Another thing that came along with the 1st trimester was I became intolerant to dairy products, especially sauces that were cream based. I recently have been trying dairy items at home from here and there to test the waters because it has been tough eliminating all dairy when there is very few thing that I have really wanted to eat to begin with. A lot of people I have talked with have all said they think it will pass, so I am hoping the same thing!
In the 1st trimester the biggest change in my body was my chest, my boobs were very tender and seem to be growing larger than what they already are. I was also very bloated the first few weeks, but that was before I even knew I was pregnant so I thought it had to do with my period. After those first few weeks the bloating went away. About two weeks ago I sprouted a little bump and it seems to grow on a daily basis. 🙂 Once my bump sprouted, which was in my 2nd trimester, it was difficult to find things to wear to work because my normal clothes were a little tight and maternity clothes were still a little too big. I finally have about the right amount of clothes to wear to work now, which makes it a lot easier to get dressed in the morning.
I would not have been able to make it through my first trimester without Howard! He did everything around the house both inside and outside and was always making sure I was eating something. I am so lucky to have him by my side during this journey of pregnancy. 🙂
